Chinese cemetery festival
We show our respect to our passed away ancestors by praying their tombs in North Okkalar Cemetery in March. Annually, the Chinese Cemetery Festival is hold for 20 days from March 24th to April 14th. On March 29th 2008, all participants were taking part in cleaning the tomb areas. We glued colourful papers on our ancestors’ tombs, as a way of building roofs for the tombs. When we prayed, we offered candles, incents, 3 cups of coffee and some food. After that we burned some gold and silver papers next to the tombs because we believe that by burning of those, our ancestors will get gold, silver, money, clothing, and so on.
